Blurred Lines
Shelby turned in a circle looking around the dark dusty room. She took in the tower of canned goods, the toilet with a sink attached, and the small twin bed.
“Are you sure about this?”
Shelby turned to her sister who was wringing her hands nervously. Kasey’s look of trepidation pushed Shelby deeper into her resolve.
Of course she was sure. He had taken too much already.
“What if someone finds out?” Kasey added, looking around the make-shift prison just as her sister had done.
Kasey was just as upset over the not guilty verdict as her sister was, but she felt this was going too far.
“He preyed on our innocence, took away our autonomy, and left us feeling powerless. Now he wants to do the same to London.” Shelby reminded her.
Kasey nodded once, agreeing, they had a kid sister they needed to protect.
He stole their innocence and now they’d steal his freedom.
The phone chimed in Shelby’s hand. She looked at it and smiled.
“He’s on his way,” she said, climbing out the hole.
He thought he was meeting London but instead he’d meet his fate.
