From a young age I was totally against Valentine’s Day. From day one there was always a small amount of pressure to get it right. Elementary school was the struggle of grabbing the right valentine cards with the most popular character on it that all my classmates would love. It seemed I could never do it right.

Middle and high school walking on to campus surrounded by teddy bears, candy, and balloons and realizing that my introverted personality would always keep me from being able to celebrate the day, let’s just say I skipped that day every year after.

I thought as an adult it would be better but now its almost equivalent as doing the walk of shame when people see you out without a date or plans. Its like they can smell the singleness coming out of your pores or like there’s a neon sign on my forehead that says HEY, IM SINGLE.

While throughout the year I’m perfectly fine being alone and happy about my long running me time. Valentine’s Day comes around and has me question my whole mindset on the subject of relationships.

On this wretched holiday, invented by people who love to see people like me squirm, I make sure to have A Bee-athon. Yup, while I could care less about listening to Queen Bee throughout the rest of the year, on February 14 though she comes through my speakers with a vengeance. She goes…
